Partnering for PEI
This work plan addition will focus on the following priorities.
The first being communications, the PEIMFNP will investigate potential to expand the PEIMFNPs partnership capacity and collaboration opportunities as well as increase public awareness regarding the present PEIMFNP and Canadas Model Forest Program (CMFP) mandates. With communication resource support from the PEI Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry, the PEIMFNP will be able to utilize a wide range of experiences to increase planning efforts to achieve long term (2007 +) opportunities.
Second is the extension of projects initiated in the 2006-2007 workplan. Such as Project # 06-305, PEIMFNP will continue to partner with the Mi'kmaq Confederacy of Prince Edward Island to enhance native and non-native understanding of the multiple values of PEI's forests and to promote traditional ecological native knowledge.
Finally, the PEIMFN Partnership will continue to develop and conduct in-house initiatives to create community forest projects that demonstrate techniques which will not only be sustainable, but will build linkages to engage community level stakeholders in the connection between landscape-level approaches and healthy communities. The PEIMFNP will develop and host a demonstration day (scheduled for June 2007) in hopes of expanding the range of knowledge, tools and practices available to land owners, local forest based industries and forest-based communities.
